The admissions reality

Your intake grew. Your interview capacity didn’t.

International applications keep rising, offer deadlines keep tightening, and every panel interview costs academic hours you don’t have. Something has to give — and it’s usually consistency.

📅

Scheduling thousands of interviews

Coordinating panels across time zones with applicants in South Asia, Africa and Southeast Asia — during teaching term.

⚖️

Inconsistent interviewing

Different interviewers, different questions, different standards. Two identical applicants can receive very different assessments.

👥

Peak-intake bottlenecks

January and September cycles compress months of interviews into weeks, with limited staff and mounting fatigue.

📝

Unstructured notes

Handwritten impressions and inconsistent records make decisions hard to compare, moderate — or defend if challenged.

🐢

Slow offer turnaround

While your panels work through the backlog, competing institutions have already made offers to your strongest applicants.

🚪

Applicants you never meet

When you can’t interview everyone, decisions default to grades and personal statements — and genuine potential slips through.

How it works

From invitation to decision, in five steps

1

Invite

Applicants receive a branded interview invitation — no scheduling, no time-zone maths.

2

Interview

They complete a natural, spoken conversation with an AI avatar, anytime, on any device.

3

Evaluate

Responses are scored against your rubric — communication, motivation, course fit and more.

4

Review

Your team reviews recordings, transcripts and structured scorecards, together.

5

Decide

Admissions decisions are made by your people — faster, and with evidence behind them.

The avatar interview

A real conversation, not a form with a camera

This is not a one-way video questionnaire. Applicants speak naturally with an AI interviewer that asks your questions, listens, and follows up — a guided conversation, not a recording booth.

  • Students speak, they don’t type.No forms, no essays-by-webcam. A spoken interview that surfaces how applicants actually think and communicate.
  • Every applicant gets the same interview.Same questions, same standard, same opportunity — whether they apply first or five-thousandth.
  • Works where your applicants are.Mobile-first design with 90%+ completion rates in mobile-heavy regions. No laptop or broadband required.
  • Less intimidating than a panel.Applicants report lower anxiety interviewing with an avatar on their own schedule — a better first impression of your institution.

Explainable evaluation

Every score comes with its reasoning attached

No black boxes. Every interview produces a full recording, a transcript, and competency scores against a rubric your academics define — with plain-English reasoning your team can interrogate, override, and stand behind in front of any committee.

  • Your rubric, not ours.Programme teams set the competencies and weightings. The AI applies them identically to every applicant.
  • Evidence, not verdicts.Scores link to timestamps in the recording, so reviewers verify rather than trust.
  • Built for committees.Shortlisting, shared notes and reviewer assignment keep faculty in the loop without more meetings.
Why universities switch

Questions deans ask us

Direct answers, no hedging

Will AI replace our admissions team?
No — and we’d be suspicious of any vendor who implies otherwise. Interviewer.AI conducts and structures the interviews; your team reviews the evidence and makes every decision. The practical effect is the opposite of replacement: your staff spend less time scheduling and note-taking, and more time on the judgement calls that actually require them.
Can we use our own rubric and questions?
Yes. Programme teams define the questions, competencies and weightings, and the AI applies them identically to every applicant. Most institutions start from our admissions templates and adapt them per programme within a working session.
How do you prevent cheating, including generative AI and proxy candidates?
Identity checks at the start of each interview, plus behavioural signals during it — unnatural pauses, read-aloud patterns, off-screen prompting — flag suspicious sessions for human review. Because interviews are spoken and conversational with real-time follow-ups, they’re substantially harder to script than written statements or one-way video.
Is the AI a black box? How do we justify results to stakeholders?
Every score is accompanied by plain-English reasoning linked to timestamps in the recording and transcript. Reviewers can verify, adjust or override any assessment, and the full chain — interview, score, rationale, human review, decision — is logged. That’s a more defensible evidence trail than most panel interviews produce today.
How is applicant data handled under UK GDPR?
The university is the data controller; we are the processor, under a signed DPA. We support your DPIA, honour your retention and deletion schedules, and offer EU/UK data residency. Applicant data is never used to train models for other customers.
Can faculty and committees review interviews?
Yes. Recordings, transcripts and scorecards are shareable with role-based access, so academics can review shortlisted candidates asynchronously — with shared notes replacing another round of meetings.
Does it integrate with our student information system?
We connect to Tribal SITS, Ellucian Banner, Salesforce and Slate environments via our documented REST API, webhooks and secure file transfer — typically through your existing integration platform such as MuleSoft, Boomi or Azure — plus SSO via SAML/OIDC. Integration scoping is part of the demo conversation.
